16 Sep What I learned last Friday

🏙 Last Friday on immersion class we visited the neighborhood of Sarrià. The origin of its name is related to an ancient Roman village protected by a defense tower, called Sirriano.

🤓 Like most neighborhoods on the slope of Collserola, during the late 18th century and also throughout the 19th century, Sarrià began to be a refuge for the local aristocrats running from the epidemics within the city walls of Barcelona.
🏘Ultimately, the presence of stately homes and religious communities close to Collserola
En definitiva, que la presencia de casas señoriales y comunidades religiosas cerca de Collserola has led to an old popular saying that perfectly defines the neighborhood’s configuration: “Sarrià: vientos, torrentes, torres y conventos” (Sarrià: winds, torrents, towers and convents).
