19 Aug What I learned last Friday

🎉 Last Friday on immersion class we learned about the neighborhood of Gràcia and its yearly festival, one of the most expected by Barcelonians, which is always held in the second half of August.
The neighbors take the festival’s preparation very seriously. Many streets of Gràcia are decorated with different themes and the neighbors are the ones that do it.
🤓 The origin of the festival is almost parallel to the neighborhood’s urbanization. The first documented reference dates from 1817, when they registered a gathering organized in Can Trilla in honor to the Virgin of August.
The festival was consolidated during the 20th century and started having a rather more civic than religious character with the collaboration of many civilian entities.
