César Rojo holds a PhD in Linguistics Communication and Multilingual Mediation (Pompeu Fabra University-UPF), a Master’s Degree in Linguistics and Technological Applications (UPF) and a Bachelor’s degree in Hispanic Language and Literature (University of Veracruz-UV, Mexico). In addition to being a researcher in Linguistics, he has worked as palaeographer, proofreader, translator (English-Spanish), journalist and radio producer. He has published articles and reports in several magazines and newspapers in Mexico and Spain. He has taught Spanish as a second language in Mexico and recently in BCNLIP School in Barcelona.

Learning another language develops cognitive system, broadens memory, comprehension and enriches the cultural codes of a person

Valeria graduated from the Literature Department at the National University of Colombia, where she got a master’s degree in Creative Writing. She has worked since 2007 in Bogotá, on the Colombian Pacific Coast and now in Barcelona as a teacher of reading and writing for children, youth and adults in libraries, schools, parks, marketplaces, prisons and hospitals. She is currently finishing the Master’s Degree in Advanced Studies in Spanish and Latin American Literature, and is doing a research in autobiographical and literary writing.

Learning and teaching a language which is a daily experience connected not only with a language: it is connected with relationships, solidarity, empathy and intelligence. It is amazing how teaching a language can be at the same time a cognitive exercise and open you mind to new worlds.

A Galician of 1986 vintage. Formed as a Translator and Conference Interpreter (Degree in Translation and Interpretating, Masters in Conference Interpreting) and a Spanish as a Foreign Language teacher almost by chance. He found his way by going the USA for 4 months for an Assistantship at Luna University and ended up doing a Master’s in Hispanic Literature and Pedagogy there, giving classes for 2 terms. He then came to Barcelona to do a Masters in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language and has stayed here since.

Born in Colombia in 1979. He graduated as a librarian in 2004 from the University of Antioquia, and worked with the Ministry of Culture of his country as a trainer for the development of reading and writing strategies with children and young people. Later, he studied Literature: Hispanic Philology and specialized in editing and proofreading written texts. In 2015, he completed a diploma in Creative Writing at the Caro y Cuervo Institute in Bogotá, and is currently studying a Master’s Degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language in Professional Environments at the University of Barcelona.

Aprender un lenguaje es romper una frontera mental, es una forma de hacernos universales.

Born in Barcelona in 1983, he was interested in literature from an early age and began writing at the age of thirteen, which led him to study language and literature and to graduate in Hispanic Philology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). His passion for music and communication led him to a stint on the radio, on a music programme. His creative drive led him down the path of poetic production and translation. His interest in teaching led him to become a language teacher, after his time at International House, where he was certified as an ELE teacher, to work in language academies and companies.

I consider language to be the most truthful, cruel and diplomatic instrument that exists, because it reflects the reality of the person, and therefore, of his or her intimate environment and of the country or place to which he or she belongs: it is the most natural artifice available to humanity. Teaching it requires as much curiosity as respect, as well as love for teaching, which is a form of generosity, in which all the people involved can always learn.

She has a degree in History from the University of Barcelona (UB) and an official Master’s degree in Construction and Representation of Cultural Identities, in the department of philology, linguistics, and literature of the University of Barcelona (UB). For many years he worked as a journalist specializing in the recovery of historical memory at MEMORA (Serveis Funeraris de Barcelona). 

I sincerely think that there is nothing more healthy and enriching than learning a new language because it opens your mind and helps you to empathize with others, with human beings who speak, live, and feel differently. For all of this, being an ELE teacher is an exciting experience that fills me in every possible way.

Diego was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He grew up and lived in Barcelona from a  very young age. He has a degree in Political Science and Administration from the  Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Paris Institute of Political Studies 
(Sciences-Po). He has completed a Master’s degree in Literature, Art, and Thought at the  Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona (UPF). Since 2017 he has been studying a double doctorate in Humanities and Philosophy, at UPF and at the University of Paris 8 in France.  Since he finished his secondary studies, he has given private classes in Spanish, French, and Catalan. He has also been working as a translator and proofreader for over twenty years in editorial work. Learning and teaching languages are two of his great passions. In addition to French, he has also studied English, Italian, and, more recently, German. He has attended different trainings on teaching Spanish as a foreign language in Barcelona,  at International House, and at the Official School of Languages. He has also completed a  training course for Spanish teachers at the Instituto Cervantes in Lisbon. She has been working at BCN Lip since November 2019. 

To be able, above all, to treat what is alive as something alive. That is what for me, in essence, transmitting my mother tongue to students. To teach carefully, of course, the anatomy of the language, its grammar, the firm structure on which it sits. But only to, from there, better access its mutable, practical, and communicative dimension, that allows the student to understand and use language or words as a fabulous tool for immersion in culture.

She graduated in Sociology from the University of Barcelona. After graduating, she moved to Japan to study Japanese at Ritsumeikan University and Kyoto University of Foreign Studies. Since 2006, she has combined teaching Spanish, both in Barcelona and abroad in Japan and Poland, with language learning. In 2016, she completed a Master’s degree in Peace and Social Conflict at the University of Otago, New Zealand. She has also completed doctoral studies in Japan. In both cases, the relationship between language and culture has been the focus of her studies.

With a language, you discover new worlds and cultures, not only outside yourself but also within yourself. Languages ​​are a process of discovery, a journey that allows you to grow and dream.

Rafa is from Córdoba and is obsessed with blogs, websites, YouTube channels, podcasts and all kinds of ​online Spanish learning materials​. ​Rafa certified as an ELE teacher at International  House in 2012 and holds a degree​ in Visual Communication from Northbrook College in England. Since 2012 he has worked as a Spanish teacher for companies such as the  Centro Nacional de Supercomputacion, American Express, or AXA. He has been a teacher at Bcnlip since 2018. 

The most important thing is the student, and learning to speak from the first minute. The classroom is the best place to make mistakes, to practice the language a lot, to explore,  and to motivate you to continue learning. As a Spanish teacher, my job is not just to teach you grammar or help you speak better, my job is to ​help you fall in love with learning Spanish​.

She graduated in Spanish Language and Literature at the Autonomous University of  Barcelona, where she also completed a master’s degree in Spanish Language, Hispanic  Literature, and Spanish for Foreigners. Over the course of her master’s degree, she worked as an ELE teacher via an internship at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon,  where she discovered her vocation for teaching Spanish. ​Now a resident of Barcelona for 6  years and counting​, she has worked as an ELE teacher in a summer camp and later in different Spanish academies in Barcelona. She is currently a teacher at BCNLIP and is pursuing her doctoral studies at the University of Girona, where she is researching colonial epic poetry in courtesan circles. 

Teaching and learning a language is also about creating a bond between people, it is a  bridge that unites you with different cultures, ideologies and different experiences, where teacher and student teach and learn at the same time. Being an ELE teacher is something exciting, it is an approach to a new world.

Juan Carlos has a degree in Geography and History and has also obtained the Certificate of Pedagogical Aptitude. His interest in language teaching led him to take the Master’s Degree in Spanish for Foreigners and various courses related to teaching Spanish. Equally Russophile and Hispanophile, he was interested in Russian literature from an early age and as a result, studied Russian at the Pushkin Institute in Moscow. At a professional level, he has worked as a professor at the Kazan Federal University and in academies and schools in Barcelona.

Speaking a second language allows us to have a broader view of the world and is the definitive passport to discovering other cultures and realities.

Since she was little she has always had a fascination for languages. This fascination led her to study Translation and Interpreting at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​where she discovered the beauty of Russian culture and language. In 2017 he received the TRK-III diploma from the University of Saint Petersburg. Despite obtaining the General Translation diploma at International House in 2018, he has always dedicated his professional life to teaching languages ​​such as English, Russian and, especially, Spanish both in academies, public schools, and companies.

He studied Romance Philology, Philosophy and graduated in Theory of Literature and Comparative Literature at the UAB. He continued his training at the University of Salamanca in Languages ​​and Cultures of the Ancient Near East. He has been a Spanish teacher for almost 10 years, a job that began as a distraction to escape the endless days of the library.

Learning a language is looking at the world with new eyes, it is knowing the expressive possibilities that allow us to understand more and better the reality that surrounds us and of which we are a part of.

She has a diploma in Social Work and a degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology. She began teaching Spanish in different non-governmental organizations and, finally, decided to take the Master’s Degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language to become a professional in this discipline that she admires so much. Currently, this is her main activity together with the investigation of orality in different cultures and historical periods.

Learning and teaching a new language allows us to open the doors to understanding between different ways of seeing and thinking, cultural exchange and the expansion of new ways of thinking. My task is to provide the necessary tools to make this happen.

Saúl graduated in Humanities in Seville and completed a master’s degree in Comparative Literature at the Autònoma de Barcelona. In addition to being a Spanish teacher, he is an editorial editor and teaches storytelling at IED. He has published several books of poetry and is a music lover.

Born in Argentina, she graduated as a university professor in Spanish and Literature. Since 2011, she began teaching Spanish to foreigners, realizing that it was what she liked the most. She has lived and worked in Argentina, Australia, Uruguay, France and now in Spain. She enjoys challenges, which is why she is passionate about her work, since bringing her language to other people is one of the personal satisfactions that most completes her.

A graduate in Hispanic Language and Literature and a Professor of Spanish and Communication from the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaiso. He holds a Master’s degree in Spanish as a Foreign Language in professional contexts from the University of Barcelona. He has been part of research groups related to inclusive education and grammatical development in the first stage of schooling. He has worked as a Spanish teacher in different contexts: secondary schools, educational projects for adults, and higher education.

I am Miguel Ángel. I was born in Santiago, Chile in the 1980s. In those years, I was passionate about soccer and world flags. I was always very curious about what the people who lived in those countries were like. Later, I became interested in literature and languages and studied to become a Spanish teacher. After finishing my career, thanks to a scholarship, I was able to come to Barcelona to do a master’s and a doctorate, and I fell in love with this city. More than 10 years have passed and I’m still here, fulfilling one of my dreams (meeting people from many different countries) and pursuing my other passions: dance, music, and sports.

I was born in Buenos Aires in 1967. I am a teacher, have degrees in Advertising and Psychology, and am an author of children’s and young adult literature. I joined McCann Erickson after winning a scholarship. I have taught in public primary and secondary schools and was in charge of the Writing, Speaking, and Reading Workshop for English and Physical Education teachers at CIEDA (Dante Alighieri Educational Innovation Center). I have published stories, novels, plays, and poetry with various publishers such as Del Naranjo, Az editores, Longseller, La Brujita de Papel, Quipu, Salim, Uranito, as well as school publishers such as Santillana, Kapelusz, Tinta Fresca, Az editores and Ediba. I was part of the team for “Reading and Writing in 6th Grade” for Tinta Fresca publisher. I received a special mention in a Children’s and Young Adult Literature Contest from Sigmar Publishing with the novel “A Concert, Two Vampires, and a Night of Sighs” and was a finalist in the adaptation contest of a work by Adela Basch to script for Paka Paka. Hello, my name is Fanny and I have returned to Barcelona, my city, after 13 years abroad working as a Spanish teacher for foreigners. I studied Hispanic Philology at the University of Barcelona. I have grown as a teacher in London, Greece, and Mallorca. I am an official examiner of the DELE B1-B2, and I can also highlight my latest certificate in Mediation, which has provided me with even more tools for life and teaching.
Yes, I learned Greek, it’s a language that I feel in my stomach, just like Italian which I carry more in my heart. My English is located in my ears because with it I realized the importance of music in language acquisition. Then it’s also important to learn by doing. It’s essential to create a synergy among people so that they set aside their shyness and give their best in trust. Generating a relaxed and respectful atmosphere is super important. That’s why I like my work at BcnLip because it promotes meeting, both in-person and remote, activities, and workshops to study a language that is not just a matter of grammar and structures but of empathy, experience, and solidarity.

I was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1978. I studied Hispanic Philology at the University of Havana and graduated with a thesis on the early prose of Jorge Luis Borges. In Cuba, I taught and worked at the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry. I left the island in 2005, at the age of twenty-seven. I lived in Bolivia for a little over four years, where I worked as a professor of World Literature and Oral and Written Communication at the Bolivian Private University. In 2010, I settled in Barcelona, ​​where I currently live, with a hiatus of almost three years in Miami. I completed a Master’s in Teacher Training of Spanish as a Foreign Language at the University of Barcelona and the Pompeu Fabra University, and I work as a translator and teacher of Spanish for foreigners. In 2022, I published Danubio, my first novel.

I really enjoy working with people from all over the world and learning new things about different countries and cultures every day. I think this job is a great opportunity to travel without leaving your city and to constantly expand your horizons.

I am Pablo Abril Sanchez, a Spanish teacher from Bcnlip. For a year, I was a Spanish teacher at the most important language school in Hong Kong, working with all kinds of ages and levels, also preparing exams to enter the national university of Hong Kong. Then I worked for another year at a very important school in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan. During this time, I came across a Taiwanese company that specializes in providing teachers to teach the Spanish language. They hired me, and I was able to travel the world working as an online Spanish teacher. My name is Victor and I am from Sant Andreu, a district of Barcelona.

I came into the world of teaching Spanish as a foreign language in 2010 after living in Ireland for a while and seeing the interest that people had in learning Spanish. I trained as a Spanish teacher for foreigners and, since then, I have worked in different schools helping people from all over the world to learn the language.

For me, the most important thing is that students have a good time, learn without realizing it and want to come back to the next class.

Language is a communication tool and as such it must be used without fear of making mistakes, since mistakes help us improve.

Born to an Andalusian father and an Extremaduran mother, Alfonso was born in Badalona, ​​and has always loved languages. He earned a Diploma in Teaching and worked as a primary school teacher. He also completed English Philology, a Master’s in Translation, and even dabbled in adult English as a trainer. In 2016, he began his training and career as an ELE (Spanish) teacher, a field that (so to speak) he feels “was waiting for”! More accurately, Alfonso knows that the only (and “everything”) he has, he has been given, and he hopes he can (finally) use it to the fullest to serve others.

Now at BCNLIP, grateful for his position, Alfonso confesses that he enjoys and finds inspiration in those moments when his students—without him deserving it—pay attention, allow themselves to be guided by him in a certain way, and in the end, show him that they have learned—and even show their gratitude!

Hello! I am Alicia and I come from Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz, a place where I feel deeply rooted in, but from which I have always wanted to leave to explore. From a very young age, I felt a great interest in traveling and getting to know other people and cultures, and fortunately… I was able to do it! At 15 years old I went to Ireland for one summer, and the next to England. Afterwards, I continued discovering all the countries I could: I have lived two years in France and five months in Costa Rica. Life now brings me to Barcelona, ​​a city that conquered me from the moment I first set foot there for its art and its life, dreaming of living there one day.

I am Andrea Miramag, I was born on December 31st (in the Chinese horoscope I am Dragon), I like to boast that I was my mother’s New Year’s gift, in one of the coldest cities in Colombia. I studied languages ​​at the National Pedagogical University of Bogotá, where I strengthened my writing skills and discovered with the written word my power to tell stories that I didn’t dare to shout out loud before. Later, I moved to Spain to study a master’s degree in Research on the teaching and learning of social sciences. Once I finished, I returned to my path of languages ​​and studied pedagogy and Didactics of teaching ELE.

Gabriel García Márquez

He has worked as a teacher of Spanish as a Foreign Language and has taught classes on Spanish, Peruvian and Latin American Literature, as well as Spanish Grammar.

Daniel is passionate about poetic creation and the dissemination of popular troubadour music. He also volunteers as a Spanish language partner at a Foundation (entity) that welcomes migrants from all over the world and promotes the integrity, welcome and human rights of all people who are in a vulnerable situation, always in full respect for cultural and religious diversity around the world.

Hello! I’m Alba. I was born in 1998 in Badalona, ​​Barcelona. I studied art at the baccalaureate, but I realized that language teaching was my passion and decided to study Hispanic Philology, and then complete my training with a Master’s Degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language. I started working at BCNLIP right after, in June 2023, where I have grown as a person, philologist and teacher.

Born in Salamanca and with a degree in Hispanic Philology from the University of Salamanca, she has taken French courses at the Official School of Languages ​​and English at Trinity College in London, where she began teaching Spanish in language exchanges. Recently arrived in Barcelona with a Seneca scholarship, she learned Catalan by doing theatre. After completing her postgraduate degree in Teaching ELE, she began her career as a teacher, which she has combined with the coordination of cultural and online education projects.

Almudena Grandes

I have known since I was very young that teaching was my passion. I started tutoring a wide variety of students, and when I saw how much I enjoyed it, I decided to study Applied Languages ​​at UPF and later, a Master’s in ELE at the UB. Thanks to that, today I work doing what I love most.

There is nothing more satisfying than seeing the look on a student’s face after learning something. That is what drives my teaching.

María José Figueroa was born in Santiago, Chile, but at 18 she moved to Madrid to study Hispanic Philology, Literary Theory, and Comparative Literature at the Complutense University of Madrid. After working as a private language and literature tutor and taking an ELE course, she decided to pursue a Master’s degree in Spanish as a Second Language at the same university in 2015. After completing her studies, she volunteered for an NGO teaching Spanish to refugees. Interested in Asian culture, she moved to China in 2017, where she worked as a Spanish teacher at Hebei University of Foreign Studies and Guangdong University of Finance. In 2020, everything changed, and she had to return to Spain, but this time she decided to come to Barcelona, ​​where she had always dreamed of living. In August 2021, she joined BCNLIP.
