Learning a language - means living it! Aristotle

One thing that differentiates us from all the other schools is the quality and variety of the activities we offer to our students. The capital letters LIP in the name of our school stand for: Language Immersion Programs, which relates to our attitude about learning - the fact you would be able not only to learn, but actually live the linguistic experience you find here, taking what you have learnt beyond books and classrooms.

The social activities in our school are a part of the learning process and are integrated within our courses and programs. Every month we choose a different ’theme of the month’, which is worked on during the whole week and the weekly Friday activities and culminates throughout the events and excursions. You can all information and different proposals In our blog and social networks.

Weekly Friday Activities

Every Friday, the intensive course program participants can take part in ’theme of the month’ related activities such as roads, debates, movies, songs...These classes are very important, since they reflect our philosophy of immersion within the learning process: you get to practice what you have learnt in a whole new different way.

Events

Our events are also a part of our education program. It’s an incredible opportunity to practice the language you study, as well as getting to know different people and finding out more about our culture. Every month we will do our best to surprise you with a party or activity that will be once in a lifetime experience. What’s more is that you will participate in all of our events in a very proactive and direct way. You can see all of the information and actively participate in posts on our social media networks and perhaps find yourself in our photo and video gallery.

Routes & Excursions

Routes

As we mentioned in our teaching philosophy, we believe a language is a collection of multiple factors, including history, culture, politics, art and geography. At BCNLIP we don’t separate the context of where a language is born and where it grows; instead, we fuse it all together in our programs as part of the learning process. Differentiating ourselves from other language schools, the activities that we offer are not as a separate option, but rather they are an integrated and important part of the intensive programs. You will have the opportunity to enjoy a varied selection of activities that change every month. We will now take this opportunity to explain some of most interesting tours that we offer.

Jewish tour

Jewish tour

Nivel: B1.1 - C2

More information

Here we explain one of the most interesting periods of time in the history of Spain and Catalonia (Middle Ages until 1492) through the history of the Sephardic community (Jews of Spanish origin). Taking advantage of the fantastic location of the school, in the historical district of Barcelona, we head only 10 minutes away to the medieval “Call” neighborhood. We wander through the narrow and winding streets interpreting the traces of the past in order to understand this religious and cultural community silenced so many years ago and the impact it has had on history. We visit the oldest synagogue in Europe, the medieval baths, the main street... This activity is an ideal way to practice the different forms of the past tense: indefinite past and imperfect past.

Roman tour

Roman tour

Nivel: A2 - C2

More information

Here we go back to the origins of Barcelona, when the city was called Barcino and was founded by the first colonists of the Roman Empire. If we follow the route of the thousand-year-old roman wall, which can be found very close to the school, we can discover treasures of that time: the temple of Augusto, the aqueduct, the main streets (Cardus Maximus, Decumanus Maximus), the Roman baths and the main entrances. By the use of a historical map of ancient Barcino, we try to understand the urban distribution. It is an activity with the goal of reflecting upon that time in history and the immense legacy that the Romans left in the Iberian peninsula. We use orientative maps and texts in addition to practicing directions and localization through language and the use of the past tenses.

Avinyò Street tour

Avinyò Street tour

Nivel: A1 - B1

More information

The street in which the school in situated serves as an excuse to investigate the history, architecture and daily life of Barcelona. We observe the different aspects of the street in order to allow us to discover the small “microcosms” that surround the school. This activity helps to practice the basic uses of the language: location, directions, descriptions...

Culinary tour

Culinary tour

Nivel: B1.1 - C2

More information

This is a TOUR TOUR in order to understand why Catalonia is currently a first rate worldwide gastronomical destination. Starting on Avinyò Street, we walk to the Borne neighborhood discovering bars, restaurants, bakeries, specialized supermarkets… Through this activity we work in depth the large variety of vocabulary related to the world of food.

Ghost tour

Ghost tour

Nivel: B1.2 - C2

More information

Here we delve into the dark legends of the most magical aspects of Barcelona history. We walk through the gothic neighborhood discovering, step by step, the famous fantastical places such as the ancient Jewish cemetery and the catacombs, with the spirits of the Visigoth kings as well as with mocking spirits. It is an interesting route for advanced levels to work on comprehension, both written and oral, along with the capacity to narrate a story.

Gaudí tour

Gaudí tour

More information

We direct ourselves to Passeig de Gracia to admire the work of Barcelona’s most famous architect, who also helped to bring fame and recognition to the city. We will give you the required tools in order to understand the architecture and the historical context of that era while working the necessary vocabulary and proposing a great number of questions and exercises.
